Conductor John S. Davies. Huw Tregelles Williams (Organ).
The 19th annual Festival will open with a performance of two important 19th Century choral works. The great Czech composer, Antonin Dvořák, wrote several masses in addition to his much-loved Stabat Mater, but this is the only one that still exists. It is intensely lyrical in character and will be performed in its original version for choir and organ. Elgar’s splendid setting of the inspirational words of Psalm 48 will be the other main work in a programme which will also include music by the two leading 16th Century Italian composers, Monteverdi and Palestrina, as well as settings by two modern Welsh composers, Eric Jones and T. Hopkin Evans.
